Nathan Kindstrand, PT, DPT, OCS, ATC, CSCS

“My passion for the field of Physical Therapy has grown from experiencing the impact it has had on my own family members and my personal history as a patient. These experiences have fostered my strong desire to help individuals return to the activities they love. I utilize a combination of evidence-based intervention strategies, cutting-edge treatment techniques and progressive therapeutic exercise programs to ensure each patient receives the highest quality of care possible. By employing a collaborative approach and developing a clear understanding of my patient’s goals I am able to develop personalized rehabilitation programs specific to each individual patient’s needs. This multi-dimensional approach ensures my patients receive the highest quality of care possible during their pursuit of full recovery.”

Nathan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training in 2013 while attending East Central University on a baseball scholarship. There he received the 2012 Athletic Trainer of the Year Award before moving on to complete an Athletic Training internship with the Indianapolis Colts professional football team. In 2013 Nathan began his studies at the University of Southern California in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

While working on his degree Nathan gained certification through the NSCA as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist in order to further his knowledge of high level return to sport progressions and general fitness. Additionally, while in school he worked for the University of Southern California as an Athletic Trainer in the Club Sports Department where he managed athletes from 56 club sports teams. During his time at the University of Southern California Nathan trained under leading researchers in shoulder pathology and overhead athletes, participated in clinical research for Major League Baseball and worked with professional athletes from the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and WTA.

Following completion of his doctorate degree he worked for Huntington Beach Physical Therapy Specialists before beginning an Orthopedic Residency Program at the University of Southern California. Nathan has helped build Tustin Physical Therapy Specialists and acts as the current Director of Physical Therapy.

Nathan has attended continuing education courses for; myofascial release and ART, ACL injury prevention, evaluation and treatment of golf injuries, evaluation and treatment of football injuries, lower extremity sport specific functional assessments and readiness to play, dynamic trunk and pelvic control in running athletes, current concepts and controversies in rehabilitation of the throwing athlete, integration of the kinetic chain in the throwing athlete, elbow pitching mechanics and UCL risk factors in adult and youth pitchers, recovery considerations in athletic injury, recurrent and chronic low back pain, non-arthritic hip pain, wrist and hand disorders, respiratory influences on core stability, effect of exercise on tendinopathy and the diagnosis and management of rotator cuff disease.

Nathan strives to provide personalized treatment programs with an understanding that each patient is unique and their rehabilitation programs should be as well. His drive and determination to provide the highest quality of care possible push him to stay current with evidence-based medicine and cutting edge treatment techniques. He believes that the foundation of any successful physical therapy program lies open communication between patient and therapist and consistent reflection/re-evaluation of the plan of care. Nathan and his wife are natives of Orange County, CA and enjoy spending time hiking and exercising outdoors. They continue to remain active athletically playing baseball, slow-pitch softball and golf recreationally.
